5.18.2012 Are you Brain-Wise? Neuroscience for Clinicians
Upcoming Talk for Association for Spirituality and Psychotherapy

As one of the most cutting-edge modalities in the scientific community, neuroscience has recently begun to validate years of spiritual and psychological traditions.

What does neursocience offer us as clinicians and healthcare professionals today?

This evening, Dr. Lynda Klau will discuss a new approach in neuroscience: Interpersonal Neurobiology (IPNB). Rather than a form of therapy itself, IPNB is an interdisciplinary framework that can be used in conjunction with any therapeutic school or approach.

IPNB’s main themes include:

  • Integration as the conceptual key to well-being
  • The mind and the brain evolve throughout our livespan.
  • At our core we are relational beings: we form ourselves in relation to others, and our relationships in turn inform our minds and brains.

We will explore these themes via exercises and discussion.

Applying IPNB is transformational not only for our clients, but for ourselves. It has far-reaching implications for evolving our world, one person at a time.

Details:

  • Where: 250 West 57th St., Suite 501, New York, NY 10019
  • When: May 18, 2012
  • Time: 7:00-9:30PM
  • Free to ASP members or $15 for non ASP members

1.2012 - 2.2012 On Being and Becoming: An Introduction to Interpersonal Neurobiology (IPNB)
The Association for Spirituality and Psychotherapy

When we as mental health professionals combine mindfulness, neuroscience, and new relationship research, a synergetic approach emerges.

Several questions arise relevant to integrating psychotherapy and spirituality:

  • How does mindfulness contribute?
  • How can we include the body?
  • What does "brain-wise" neuroscientific knowledge add?
  • What qualities can we develop to facilitate relationships that heal?
These and other questions inform this learning module, which draws from personal and professional stories as well as exercises and discussion.

From here, others can select which ideas resonate with them most strongly, and then organically divide into sub-groups. This can range from debriefing about the conference to starting a new conversation, developing the vision for a collective project, forming a regional or local community, or even doing yoga, dancing or sitting silently together. Finally, we reconvene as one group for a communal sharing. Please visit the Psychotherapy Networker website for more on the Symposium.
